Last weekend, Prague became the stage for the European Open where judoka Mireia Lapuerta shone by winning the bronze medal in the -52 kg category. She demonstrated her superiority and determination by winning 3 of the 4 matches she contested.
Mireia Lapuerta overcame a wazari in her initial challenge against the Polish Cieslik to win by ippon and reach the quarter-finals.
In this instance, against the French Beres, she fell by ippon. In the repechage, a double wazari gave her the victory against the Czech Bodnarova and with it the right to contest the bronze medal.
In the medal fight, Lapuerta's good work against the Israeli Raab materialized in a wazari that established the decisive difference to be accredited as the winner of this fight and thus climb onto the awards podium.
This is the first international success in the under 52 kg category for the athlete federated by the Valencian Community, after her brilliant career in the lower weight category for many years.
